Museum & Heritage Case study

Flood alerts, footfall and climate, one flexible system

On his first day, Curator Darran Cowd found the museum closed and full of dehumidifiers. It had flooded the week before. An existing Eltek system was already in place, and its flexibility turned out to be exactly what a one-person operation needed.

Re-opened in the Town Hall

A collection spanning 100 million years

Re-opened in Folkestone’s Town Hall in 2017, the museum’s collection runs from ammonite fossils and Bronze Age finds to both world wars. Curator and Director Darran Cowd, who has worked in heritage since he was 14, juggles curation, exhibitions, marketing, KPIs and fundraising, often single-handed.

Flexible technology for a busy curator

Having used Eltek for the better part of a decade, Darran expanded the existing temperature and humidity monitoring with flood detection, then upgraded to 4G with SMS so he gets text updates on the museum’s condition, added more sensors, and finally added people-counting, letting him report free-entry footfall KPIs without fuss.

“I’d recommend Eltek every time.”
